Covent Garden London square
(named from the convent garden once on the
site) laid out by Inigo Jones in 1631. The
buildings that formerly housed London's fruit
and vegetable market (moved to Nine Elms,
Wandsworth, in 1973) were adapted for shops
and restaurants. The Royal Opera House, also
housing the Royal Ballet, is here; also the
London Transport Museum.
